Jack Black is an American treasure, but Americans seem to forget this on a regular basis. Luckily, every so often, someone comes around to remind us of this cold, hard fact, which is why the 51-year-old Jewish actor and musician is currently trending on Twitter. What started it all? In a tweet from writer Hamish Steele that went viral on Sunday evening, he shared a video of Black in School of Rock, writing, “This scene is more revolutionary than I think they even knew and it really stuck with me as a child. Especially the last line.”
In the clip, Black, playing Dewey Finn, a guitarist who lies his way into a substitute teacher position, tells his student, singer Tamika (Maryam Hassan), who is self-conscious about being fat, that “you’ve got something everyone wants,” which is her talent. “You know who else has a weight issue? Me. But once I get up on stage, start doing my thing, people worship me!! Because I’m sexy! And chubby, man.”

Soon, Steele’s tweet was everywhere, with people sharing their feelings on the actor and their favorite Jack Black moments. Feelings around fatphobia and the desirability of Jack Black also reemerged, with many linking to a Jezebel article by Emily Alford, headlined, “It Is Completely Normal to Want to Bone Jack Black, Yet We Do Not Speak of It.”
I got scared because Jack Black is trending but then it was just the internet admitting that he’s a very hot man and I am delighted pic.twitter.com/8ELBQbehNZ

I think about the "we do not speak of it" in this a lot, and like. guys he's hot because he's fat. his energy is fantastic, but an enormous portion of the sexiness comes from his size and the total chill with which he lives it. please own your thirst for this fat hot man. https://t.co/NVZgmIzyYj

It is always an excellent time to celebrate Black, who is certainly the reason why School of Rock has become a bonafide classic of our time — and whose roles in films like High Fidelity and The Holiday stole the scene every time (we just won’t speak of Shallow Hal, okay?). The fact that people feel as though it’s a guilty confession to admit that Black is hot is a sad testament to the fact that he doesn’t look like the classic “leading men” Hollywood usually rolls with, especially because he’s clearly got the acting and singing chops.
So, let’s take this time to reminisce on all the moments where the internet rediscovered the joy of Jack Black, focusing on “when Jack Black is trending” tweets, a simply wonderful genre of tweets.

Context: In 2018, Rapper Aminé released “BLACKJACK,” a song that raps about Jack Black with a music video that is very much School of Rock-inspired. It’s incredible:
Just as incredible? Black’s reaction to being honored by Aminé, saying, “Dude, I was touched, seriously.” His reaction starts at 26 seconds into this video:
Though he mispronounces the name, Aminé loved it:
jack black is the only person allowed to mess my name up just this once lol fucking legend

(Yes that tweet was mine, his version of Chad Gadya, a Passover song, on a Hanukkah album remains my favorite thing on the Internet.)

Yes, that last one is Black’s TikTok. When Jack Black joined TikTok, dancing in underwear, cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat, the internet freaked out (for good reason):

As People magazine wrote, “fans go wild” over Black’s appearance. And as Jack Black trended, people started, once again, sharing their favorite videos of Jack Black.

After his TikTok went viral, he told Jimmy Kimmel, “I feel like that’s the one thing I can do to contribute during this tough time… We’ve got to try to keep the giggles coming!”
While we’re on the subject of Black’s TikTok, here’s him dancing to “WAP.”
