It has been thousands of years, eons, even, since there’s been a new season of “Barry.”
OK, maybe we’re exaggerating just a little. But it has been awhile! Season two of the dark-comedy-crime-drama show starring Bill Hader and Henry Winkler premiered in 2019.
Now, at long last, season three will be coming out on April 24, 2022! So, in anticipation of this glorious event, let’s take a second to celebrate another “Barry” star, who also happens to be Jewish: Sarah Goldberg!
Here are 18 things to know about Sarah Goldberg.
1. Sarah Goldberg was born in 1985 in Vancouver to a Jewish family.
2. Her birthday is May 31, making her a Gemini!
3. Sarah first started acting in school plays as a child.
4. At 19, Sarah moved to London to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
“I liked that program because it was sprinkled with everything — we even had flamenco lessons,” Sarah remembered in an interview with Vulture. “Never gonna use it, but hey, it was fun!”
5. After graduating, Sarah was cast in a theatrical adaption of Carson McCullers’s novel “The Member of the Wedding.”
“My first job was at the Young Vic and I got it right as I left school, so I was really spoiled. I thought, ‘Oh, this is the life of an actor, you do eight shows a week and you have the code to the dressing rooms,’” she recalled. “And I was very quickly working in a gastropub in Notting Hill.”
6. Sarah was nominated for an Olivier Award (basically the British version of the Tonys) for her role in the play “Clybourne Park.”
7. If you’re wondering where you may have seen Sarah before, it might’ve been in Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises.”

8. Sarah turned down a TV role once because it seemed like “soft porn.”
“I was going in for a casting director I really like, but the scene was like—‘she rides the horse bareback, she takes his cock in her hand,’” Goldberg remembered in a Vanity Fair interview. “I was like, ‘what the fuck is this?’” she said. “Anyway, it was ‘Game of Thrones.’”
Sarah, we’re so glad you did not take that job.
9. In 2015, Sarah played Lolly Lavigne in the short-lived VH1 show “Hindsight.”

12. Sarah met fellow Jewish actor Henry Winkler while waiting in a stairwell to audition for “Barry.”
“This man comes down the stairs, and I’m sure as you just experienced it, he does a 180 pivot and he sticks out his hand and goes, “Hi, I’m Henry!” I look up — this is my first day auditioning in Los Angeles, keep in mind — and go, “Hi, I’m hallucinating!” Sarah explained.
Adding, “He was so lovely and he said to me, “Are you about to read?” I said, “Yeah,” and he goes, “Break a leg.” So I go, “Thank you Henry, that’s really kind, how did yours go?” and he said, “You know, if I had an answer to that question, I’ll tell you this much, I had fun.” Then he just strode out. I looked back down at my script and looked up, and there was a big window, and I could see him pacing back and forth for the next 20 minutes looking for his car. It was the greatest privilege of my life to have worked with that man.”

13. Sarah’s second round audition for “Barry” was… quite something.

14. She found out she got her role in “Barry” in an Opening Ceremony store.
“I was in New York in Soho when I got the call. My phone wouldn’t stop wildly buzzing from people and I thought, I think I need to put my phone on airplane mode and chill. So I walked into Opening Ceremony because I needed clothes for this event and I was in this otherworldly mind-set,” Sarah explained, adding, “I bought this outfit that I couldn’t afford, and I get to the till and this woman fires off this gun, and confetti falls everywhere. She goes, “Congratulations, you’ve won!” And I’m like, What, I know, how do you know?! And she’s like, “You get 10 percent off!” That day was too much, I needed to go lie down for awhile.”
Sarah, we needed to lie down just reading that.

16. Sarah was nominated for an Emmy in 2019 for her role as Sally Reed in “Barry.”

In 2019, she described a pilot she was writing, saying, “It has to do with a woman who finds out that her father wasn’t really her father, so she goes to track down her biological father in Ireland, only to find out she has a half-sister. And it’s about their relationship. It’s kind of about adult children of alcoholics and how your parents fuck you up in your thirties.”
Oooooh. We would definitely watch that TV show!
