In news that we didn’t know we needed, Beanie Feldstein has been cast as Monica Lewinsky in the new season of American Crime Story. The first season of the true crime anthology show focused on the O.J. Simpson murder case, and the second on the assassination of Gianni Versace. Now, the third season is turning to the impeachment of Bill Clinton.
Lewinsky herself has signed on as a co-producer of the season. As Ryan Murphy, the creator, told Lewinsky: “Nobody should tell your story but you, and it’s kind of gross if they do. If you want to produce it with me, I would love that; but you should be the producer, and you should make all the goddamn money.”
In an e-mail to Vanity Fair, she explained her decision: “People have been co-opting and telling my part in this story for decades. In fact, it wasn’t until the past few years that I’ve been able to fully reclaim my narrative; almost 20 years later.”
“I was hesitant, and truthfully more than a little scared to sign on,” Lewinsky added. “But after a lengthy dinner meeting with Ryan, I came to understand even more clearly how dedicated he is to giving a voice to the marginalized in all of his brilliant work. I’m privileged to work with him and the other talented people on the team, and I’m privileged to have this opportunity.”
And, the news of her involvement is only made better with the fact that Beanie freakin’ Feldstein will be playing Lewinsky. Beanie, star of our hearts and of Booksmart, is one of our favorite Jewish actresses in Hollywood.
