Matt James seems to have come a long way in terms of cross-cultural exchange since his days on “The Bachelor.”
During his season, James notoriously started his first cocktail party by leading all the women vying for his heart in prayer and assuming everyone in the room was, like him, a Christian. But just last month, James attended his first Shabbat dinner. “The prayer was beautiful, the fellowship with friends and family, reflecting on the week and the blessings that we all have,” he later recapped the experience in a TikTok. “I wish everyone could have experienced what I experienced that night.” He added, “If there is ever a Shabbat seat that needs filling, you know who to call!”
Welp, it looks like Matt James got the call, but this time it was to attend his first-ever Passover seder.
In a recent TikTok, James shared that he took part in a very low key seder hosted by a Jewish friend. The video shows the group reclining on couches — which is technically part of the seder tradition — as they go through a DIY haggadah and a hockey game plays on a TV in the background — which is technically not part of the seder tradition. “We ate foods that served as reminders of [the] journey they made out of Egypt,” James says in voiceover as the video shows the group dipping celery in saltwater and marking the 10 plagues of Egypt. “And we were able to ask questions without feeling judged.”
@mattjames9191 everything we are at our first Passover 🍴🙌🏾
Matt shared that they then ate matzah ball soup and brisket, and thanked his friend for sharing Jewish culture with him. In the process, he added to the very rich Jewish tradition of arguing over whether or not gefilte fish is actually good. His take? Matt James is very pro-gefilte fish.”[Gefilte fish] is actually fire, I don’t understand why it gets such a bad rap,” he said.
Attending Shabbat dinners? Participating in Passover seders and asking questions? Publicly enjoying gefilte fish?! Matt James is clearly going on some sort of journey to learn more about Jewish culture and frankly, we’re here for it.
