‘Mrs. Maisel’ Star Michael Zegen Had a Marvelous Jewish Wedding

Mazel tov, Michael and Jennifer!

There were quite a few weddings (or, at least, implied weddings) throughout the run of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Most prominently, viewers see a flashback to Midge and Joel’s wedding in the pilot. There’s also Shy Baldwin’s sham marriage in season four, Zelda the maid’s wedding in season five and, also in the final season, viewers learn that Midge married three other men after her divorce from Joel.

But now, we have a real-life “Maisel” wedding! Michael Zegen, who played Joel Maisel, got married this past weekend to Broadway actress Jennifer Damiano in a Jewish ceremony.

Per an Instagram story posted by theater publicist Chelsea Nachman, the pair were married by Rabbi Jennifer Schlosberg (0f the Glen Rock Jewish Center, where Zegen’s parents are members) under a chuppah. The ceremony seems to have taken place in the courtyard garden at the Greenwich Village Italian eatery Palma, where the couple were surrounded by friends and family. The groom wore a dark suit and kippah, while the bride wore a chic column-style gown with lace sleeves and back.

Over the last near-decade, Zegen has starred in numerous projects in addition to “Maisel,” including a few turns on the stage. The pair may have met while co-starring in “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice” off-Broadway in 2020. Based on the 1969 film of the same name, the musical follows two couples who share their sex lives with one another. Michael played Ted Henderson and Jennifer played Carol Sanders.

Jennifer is originally from White Plains, New York, the daughter of Nancy and Mark Damiano. Michael hails from Ridgewood, New Jersey, the son of Jeffrey and Rachelle Zegen. His mother was born in a displaced persons camp in Austria, the child of two Holocaust survivors. “My grandmother, Szoszana, escaped Ukraine just before the Nazis arrived by hiding in the woods. My grandfather, Aaron, escaped to Belarus. He discovered years later that his older brother also survived,” Michael told the Wall Street Journal in 2019.
